Sneaking up from above
The Morenas Coloradas rock glacier in the arid central Andes of Argentina is a pivotal example of actively creeping permaforst. The rock glacier sediments fills the entire valley, slowly being moved downslope by periglacial processes that create impressive lobes with steep fronts. With more than 4 km length, the Morenas Coloradas rock glacier is one of the largest rock glaciers of the central Andes.
